MUMBAI (Thomson Financial) – India’s Reliance Communications Ltd. (RCom) said its Reliance Globalcom unit has signed a strategic alliance pact with U.S.-based Stealth Communications to extend the world’s largest voice over internet protocol (VoIP) network.
The network, known as Voice Peering Fabric (VPF), is an electronic marketplace where companies buy and sell telephony services.
No financial details were provided.
The telecommunications services provider said VPF would use its fully internet protocol-enabled optic fibre network to carry its VoIP traffic.
Reliance Globalcom would also offer termination of VoIP calls on traditional public switched telephone networks across VPF.
RCom said VPF carried a record traffic of 200 billion voice minutes in 2007, with this figure projected to double to 400 billion voice minutes this year.
