BASF set to win spray paint systems order from Tata for Nano compact car

BASF SE. is close to winning a contract from India’s Tata Motors Ltd. to supply spray painting facilities and other systems for the Nano compact car, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported, citing the German chemical company.

The possible contract also includes car seats and catalytic converters, the paper reported.

The company plans to lift its share of the Indian market for car coatings to 33 percent in five years from currently 20 percent, Dhruva Ramkumar, the head of BASF’s coatings business in India, told the paper. Read the rest of this entry »

India’s Reliance Big Entertainment in deals to fund Hollywood projects

Reliance Big Entertainment (RBE), part of the group controlled by Indian billionaire Anil Ambani, said it will provide development funds to eight Hollywood production companies.

India’s Exports May Have Gained 30% in April, Express Says

India’s export growth may have accelerated to 30 percent in April from 19.5 percent a year earlier, the Indian Express reported, citing officials at the commerce department it didn’t name.

Exports may have increased to 600 billion rupees ($14 billion) last month from 461.6 billion rupees in April 2007, the newspaper said.

April shipments were boosted by higher sales overseas of engineering goods, which account for about one-fifth of the country’s total exports, the newspaper reported.

India’s Rural Electrification to Lend $894 Million to NTPC Unit

Rural Electrification Corp., the state-owned lender to power projects in India’s villages, will lend 38 billion rupees ($894 million) to a utility that’s partially owned by NTPC Ltd.

NTPC Tamil Nadu Power Co., a joint venture by India’s biggest power producer and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, will use the funds to set up a 1,000 megawatts-power generation plant near the southern city of Chennai, the ministry of power said in a statement on a government Web site today.
